Surprisingly, compare to 17-tons gold ores, more gold can be extracted from a much smaller pile weighing just 1 metric ton of cell phones. A ton of cell phones can yield 280g of gold, about 140g of platinum and palladium, and 140kg of copper, along with plastic and glass that can be recycled.
